Why I wrote this book
After completing The Tradition Volume 1 I decided to work on a set of arrangements that included some great standards from the traditional Irish and Scottish canon whilst also introducing players to some great pieces from the American side of things. So in this collection of ten pieces you’ll find beautiful Irish and Scottish airs and reels alongside powerful Gospel, Blues and Spirituals from American traditional music.
What is in the book?
There are slow, medium and uptempo pieces for you to work on and as ever a variety of tunings are used – in this collection you’ll find Standard (3 arrangements), DADGAD (3 arrangements), Open G Major (1 arrangement), Open D minor (1 arrangement), and Drop D (2 arrangements). Downloadable MP3s for each arrangement are also included.
Who is this for?
This collection features both traditional Celtic pieces alongside American styles so there is more of a contrast than The Tradition Volumes 1 and 2. If you are looking to develop your traditional blues playing there are several pieces designed for that in addition to thumbpicking workouts that will take you in more of a Tommy Emmanuel/Chet Atkins direction. The pieces in this book are typically longer than in the other collections and are ideal if you are looking to really get deep in an arrangement.
The download is delivered as a zip file containing a PDF copy of The Heritage and 10 MP3 files covering each piece in the book – total file size is 41.2 mb. The PDF version of the book is identical to the print copy.
The zip file can be opened with winzip and you will need Adobe Acrobat reader to view the PDF version of the book. MP3 Audio files can be played in iTunes or Windows Media Player or any supported audio software.
