This piece is very special for me as it’s the composition which won me Guitarist Magazine’s ‘Acoustic Guitarist of the Year’ back in 2002. This piece is studied by guitar players across the globe thanks to its inclusion in the RGT Acoustic Guitar syllabus.

Reviews

  1. Acoustic Magazine

“Winner of Guitarist magazine’s Acoustic Guitarist of the Year 2002 award and runner-up for Perrier Young Musician 2001, Stuart Ryan is quickly making a name for himself as one of the finest acoustic guitarists in the UK.

The Coast Road is a beautiful collection of predominantly fingerstyle pieces that sit comfortably next to Martin Taylor within your CD collection. It is not a surprise to find that Ryan cites Taylor as an influence, although the music also possesses Celtic, and in some places a classical feel. ‘Across the Water’ gives evidence of the inevitable bluegrass influences that so many of this style of guitarists dabble with. ‘Madrid’ is a particular favourite, with its dark Latin overtones, as is the excellent Doyle Dyke-esque ‘If I had a Banjo’. Each piece is constructed well enough to hold the attention, with Ryan caressing sweet tones from his Custom Brook acoustic guitar. If you like Acoustic columnists Messrs. Roche and Dykes, you’d better get yourself a copy of The Coast Road.”
